The Story and the Song: A Grasshopper's Journey Through Time and Life
John Hartoch Event – September 14th, 2025 7pm
THE STORY AND THE SONG – A Grasshopper’s Journey through Time and Life.
A song without a tale
Gets stale;
A tale without a song
Feels wrong:
Tales with songs to leaven
Is a marriage made in heaven.
If you fancy six or seven
Come along!
How did it all start? Who wrote the first ballad? Was the Prime Minister insider trading? Why didn’t Sam Coleridge finish his best poem? All these questions will be answered extremely unreliably by John Hartoch, now retired from his position as Head of Acting Courses at the famous Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, as he gets back to his performing roots in an evening of light-hearted song and grown-up story. Making a series of grasshopper leaps, John imagines moments in the long marriage of THE STORY AND THE SONG., winding up in the present day with his own songs and their stories.
