Annie Musgrove – Exmoor Explored

Annie Musgrove lives on the Somerset-Devon border working mostly in oil, adding layers to build up a depth to her work in which she captures the elemental nature of the rural landscape around her. She collects information about a place by walking, observing and just being still. From the wild and remote nature of moorland to the power of a winter storm at the coastline, Annie’s work captures the vigour and wonder of nature that surrounds us. In recent work, Annie is exploring form and colour through abstraction. These painterly abstracted landscapes and seascapes are grounded with a sense of place and enjoy more freedom from representation. 

Prior to her artistic career, Annie spent 30 years teaching geography, concluding her teaching career at Wellington School. Having taught hundreds of students how to interpret and sketch the landscape, she was ready to move on to sketch and paint local landscapes. After teaching, she spent two years studying at Newlyn School of Art and has subsequently exhibited widely in the south-west.
