Well – some were puzzled, some were flummoxed, but I reckon everyone picked up some valuable tips on how to use social media to spread the word about their work after the free training provided by super social enterprise company Cosmic and major enthusiast, trainer Matt Young. Many thanks Matt and all who came along!
Hot off the mark to put what they learned into practise, were Tilly Willis who set up an artist business page on Facebook (rather than just her individual profile) – so please visit it and click ‘Like’ to help her get her numbers up so that more people will hear about her – the link is https://www.facebook.com/tillywillisart
Equally speedy after her training was writer Bethany Askew – check out her blog at http://www.bethanyaskew.co.uk/2013/04/a-cosmic-day-with-media-matty/ Now when she tweets or posts about this, hopefully others will respond. Matt for example, has nearly 1,000 followers – so if he does, that’s nearly a 1,000 people who hadn’t even heard about Bethany or the 10 Parishes Festival before…
The more we can all help each other, the more people will hear about you and boost the number of visitors at the 10 Parishes Festival exhibitions. Cross posting and linking and getting involved is what makes social media – and it helps everybody.
If you haven’t had a go yet – just plunge in, it’s the only way. You may be slow or inexpert but no matter, that’s how people learn. It may be scary but there is plenty of guidance from Google or Facebook or Twitter or blog sites, and what’s the worst that can happen? If you make a mistake, you can delete it – and people will already be looking at the next post or tweet.
