Tracebridge Sourdough is also taking part in the Local Producers Market, just about to launch from April 6th at Moorish café / restaurant at No 10 The Square in Wiveliscombe – all set to promote great produce and make Saturday mornings in the town even more bustling!
Gordon Woodcock and Katie Venner, who started the bakery after moving to Tracebridge on the Somerset-Devon border, are staunch supporters of the Festival Street Market. “It’s a great event – the weather’s usually at least half decent, everyone clearly enjoys it and there’s a really good footfall,” says Gordon.
He had always made bread and pizza for friends and parties, but their move inspired the couple to build a wood-fired masonry oven and using locally supplied wood, they were soon selling bread and buns in their village shop in Stawley.
Now they support various local enterprises, specialising in produce inspired by the great tradition of European and American sourdough breads and bakers. The bread is slowly fermented using the natural yeasts on the grain and in the air rather than commercial yeast.
* Festival Street Market stallholders will be selling everything from local cheeses to homemade cakes; locally sourced beef and venison burgers to homemade chutneys and preserves; organic vegetables to farmhouse cider, local ales and more.
